A distinctively British summer

It seems unbelievable to think we are in the midst of summer already, with the school summer holidays upon us. Perhaps time seems to be flying by so quickly as our lives have become so much busier and fuller as we make up for lost time over the last couple of years.

There’s something uniquely special about the British summer with our huge calendar of events, including Royal Ascot, The Chelsea Flower Show, Henley Regatta, Glyndebourne, Glastonbury, to name a few.

The weather this summer though, is turning out to be distinctively un-British by providing us with unexpected amounts of warm sunshine, and with a heatwave looming for the weekend and following into next week. This will of course be wonderful for our very British summer events.

We were lucky enough to get tickets for Glastonbury, three years ago. Due to Covid and the event being cancelled we finally got to go this year, with ten members of our extended family. We had the most brilliant time not realising there was so much more to Glastonbury than the music. The weather was kind to us too, which made glamping a little easier. We even took one of our picnic baskets, which came in unbelievably handy for drinks and snacks while sitting on our chairs enjoying some distinctively British icons, Noel Gallagher and Paul McCartney. Can’t wait till next time!

On Tuesday, we spent the day at Wimbledon - a Father’s Day present. It was great to see Djokovic playing but such fun sitting on "Henman Hill" watching Cameron Norris get through to the semi-finals, the first British man to get through to the semis since Andy Murray in 2016. Henman Hill was buzzing with excitement, with barely a spare space in sight with crowds enjoying some fantastic tennis, along with Pimms, strawberries and picnics in the sun. A distinctively British day.

Hopefully you may have been lucky enough to secure tickets to some of the upcoming events this summer. But if not, there’s nothing more enjoyably British than a picnic, so grab your picnic basket and make the most of the great weather we are having.

Enjoy the heatwave!
